Waggle dances, honey production, and colony collapse — 50 questions about bees and pollinators.
The Bees Quiz is a free online quiz that tests your knowledge of bees with 50 questions about honeybee behavior, pollination, and colony life. Bees must visit roughly 2 million flowers and fly 55,000 miles to produce a single pound of honey.
Each round presents 10 randomized questions from a pool of 50, with four multiple-choice options and instant feedback after every answer. Your final score comes with a performance tier and shareable results.
You'll explore honeybee colony structure, the waggle dance and bee communication, honey production and varieties, the differences between honeybees, bumblebees, and solitary bees, how pollination supports global food supplies, Colony Collapse Disorder, and the roles of other pollinators like butterflies, bats, and hummingbirds.
There are approximately 20,000 known species of bees worldwide. The vast majority are solitary bees that do not live in colonies. Only about 7 species are true honeybees (genus Apis).
Bee populations are declining due to a combination of factors including pesticide exposure (especially neonicotinoids), Varroa mite infestations, habitat loss, climate change, and disease. This phenomenon is often linked to Colony Collapse Disorder (CCD).
A single worker honeybee produces approximately one-twelfth of a teaspoon of honey in its entire lifetime, which is typically about six weeks during summer. It takes the collective effort of about 60,000 bees to produce one pound of honey.
