The land with more pyramids than Egypt, where the Blue and White Nile become one.
Sudan harbors a secret that surprises most visitors: it has more ancient pyramids than Egypt. The Nubian pyramids of Meroë number over 200, built by the rulers of the Kingdom of Kush between 300 BC and 350 AD. This ancient civilization was so powerful that its kings once ruled Egypt as the 25th Dynasty — the Nubian pharaohs. Today Sudan wrestles with a turbulent modern history, from the Darfur genocide to the 2019 revolution and the devastating 2023 civil war.
Each round presents 10 randomized questions from a pool of 50, with four multiple-choice options and instant feedback after every answer. Your final score comes with a performance tier and shareable results.
You'll explore Sudan's geography as the third-largest country in Africa, the historic Kingdom of Kush and Nubian pharaohs, the pyramids of Meroë and Naga temples, the confluence of the Blue and White Nile at Khartoum, Sudan's independence and modern conflicts including Darfur, the 2011 secession of South Sudan, the 2019 revolution, and Sudan's role as the world's top producer of gum arabic.
Yes. Sudan has over 200 ancient pyramids, compared to approximately 130 in Egypt. The Nubian pyramids at Meroë, Nuri, and El-Kurru were built by the rulers of the Kingdom of Kush and are a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Although smaller and steeper than Egyptian pyramids, they are equally impressive and far less visited.
The Blue Nile and White Nile converge at Khartoum, Sudan's capital, at a point known as Al-Mogran. The Blue Nile originates at Lake Tana in Ethiopia and carries nutrient-rich sediment, while the White Nile flows from Lake Victoria in Central Africa. Together they form the main Nile River, which continues northward through Sudan and Egypt to the Mediterranean Sea.
The Kingdom of Kush was an ancient Nubian civilization that flourished in what is now northern Sudan from around 1070 BC to 350 AD. At its height, Kushite kings conquered and ruled Egypt as the 25th Dynasty — the Nubian pharaohs — for roughly 100 years (circa 744–656 BC). Its capital moved over time from Napata to Meroë, where the famous pyramid fields remain a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
