Turkey is a transcontinental country straddling Europe and Asia, with a history spanning from ancient Troy and the Byzantine Empire to the Ottoman era and the modern republic founded by Atatürk. This quiz covers everything from the Hagia Sophia and Cappadocia's fairy chimneys to Turkish coffee, kebabs, and the world's oldest known temple at Göbekli Tepe.
Each round presents 10 randomized multiple-choice questions drawn from a pool of 50, so every playthrough is different. You get instant feedback with explanations after each answer, plus a shareable score at the end.
You'll explore Turkey's unique position bridging two continents, the grandeur of Ottoman palaces and Byzantine churches, the otherworldly landscapes of Cappadocia and Pamukkale, a vibrant food culture of kebabs and baklava, and traditions from whirling dervishes to oil wrestling.
Both — Turkey straddles both continents, with about 3% of its land (East Thrace) in Europe and 97% (Anatolia) in Asia. Istanbul is famously divided by the Bosphorus strait, with neighborhoods on both the European and Asian sides.
Ankara, not Istanbul — Ankara has been the capital since 1923 when Mustafa Kemal Atatürk founded the modern Turkish republic. He chose Ankara for its central Anatolian location, away from the Ottoman associations of Istanbul.
Constantinople was the former name of Istanbul, serving as the capital of the Byzantine (Eastern Roman) Empire for over 1,000 years. Founded by Emperor Constantine I in 330 AD, it was the largest and wealthiest city in Europe for centuries before falling to the Ottomans in 1453.
