There are nine films in the Alien universe: Alien (1979), Aliens (1986), Alien 3 (1992), Alien Resurrection (1997), Alien vs. Predator (2004), Aliens vs. Predator: Requiem (2007), Prometheus (2012), Alien: Covenant (2017), and Alien: Romulus (2024). The main saga follows Ellen Ripley through the first four films.
The Xenomorph lifecycle has four main stages: Ovomorph (egg), Facehugger (attaches to a host and implants an embryo), Chestburster (emerges violently from the host), and adult Drone or Warrior. A Queen Xenomorph lays the eggs, and the creatures have acid for blood, an inner jaw, and no eyes.
For first-time viewers, release order is recommended: Alien, Aliens, Alien 3, Alien Resurrection, then the prequels Prometheus and Covenant, and finally Romulus. Chronologically, the prequels come first (set in 2089–2104), followed by Alien (2122), Aliens (2179), Alien 3 (2179), Resurrection (2381), with Romulus set between Alien and Aliens.
