Explore Tatsuki Fujimoto's dark and chaotic world of Devils, Fiends, and Hybrids. Cover Denji's transformation, the Public Safety Devil Hunters, Makima's true nature as the Control Devil, MAPPA's groundbreaking anime adaptation, and Part 2's new protagonist Asa Mitaka.
Devils are supernatural beings born from human fears. Fiends are Devils that have taken over a human corpse, retaining some of the Devil's personality but in a human body. Hybrids are humans who can transform into a Devil form while keeping their human consciousness, like Denji becoming Chainsaw Man.
Makima is introduced as a high-ranking Public Safety Devil Hunter who recruits Denji. Her true identity is the Control Devil, one of the most powerful Devils in existence. She manipulated Denji and others throughout Part 1 to achieve her goal of using Chainsaw Man's power to erase concepts she deemed unnecessary.
Part 2, subtitled the Academy Saga, shifts focus to a new protagonist, Asa Mitaka, a high school student bonded with the War Devil (Yoru). While Denji still appears, the story explores a school setting and Asa's struggles. The tone remains dark but examines different themes of identity and control.
