Naruto has sold over 250 million manga copies worldwide, making it one of the best-selling manga series of all time. Created by Masashi Kishimoto and serialized in Weekly Shonen Jump from 1999 to 2014, the saga spans 700 chapters and follows Naruto Uzumaki's journey from a lonely outcast in the Hidden Leaf Village to the Seventh Hokage. Along the way it introduced a generation of fans to jutsu, chakra natures, tailed beasts, and one of anime's most iconic rivalries.

The tailed beasts (Biju) are nine massive chakra creatures created by the Sage of Six Paths from the Ten-Tails. They are named by their number of tails: Shukaku (One-Tail), Matatabi (Two-Tails), Isobu (Three-Tails), Son Goku (Four-Tails), Kokuo (Five-Tails), Saiken (Six-Tails), Chomei (Seven-Tails), Gyuki (Eight-Tails), and Kurama (Nine-Tails). The most powerful is Kurama, the Nine-Tailed Fox sealed inside Naruto.
The Akatsuki were a criminal organization led by Pain (Nagato) and Konan, founded by Yahiko. Core members included Itachi Uchiha, Kisame Hoshigaki, Deidara, Sasori, Hidan, Kakuzu, and Tobi (Obito Uchiha). The organization's stated goal was to capture all nine tailed beasts, though their true motives varied by member.
The original Naruto anime has 220 episodes with roughly 40% being filler, while Naruto Shippuden has 500 episodes with about 41% filler (approximately 205 episodes). The most notorious filler block in Shippuden runs from episodes 144–151 and 170–171. Many fans use filler guides to watch only the canonical story arcs.
