Severance is a surgical procedure involving a chip implanted in the brain that completely separates a person's work memories from their personal memories. When a severed employee enters their workplace, they have no memory of their outside life, and vice versa. This creates two distinct identities: the "innie" (work self) and the "outie" (outside self).
Adam Scott plays Mark Scout, the lead character and head of the Macrodata Refinement (MDR) department at Lumon Industries. Mark originally underwent severance to cope with the grief of losing his wife Gemma.
