Baldur's Gate 3 was developed by Larian Studios, a Belgian RPG studio founded by Swen Vincke. The game was released on August 3, 2023 for PC, with a PlayStation 5 version following on September 6, 2023. Larian had previously created the Divinity: Original Sin series.
The six origin companions are Shadowheart (Half-Elf Cleric of Shar), Astarion (High Elf Vampire Spawn Rogue), Gale (Human Wizard), Lae'zel (Githyanki Fighter), Wyll (Human Warlock), and Karlach (Tiefling Barbarian). Each can be recruited as a party member or played as the main character with their own unique storyline.
Baldur's Gate 3 is based on the 5th Edition of Dungeons & Dragons and is set in the Forgotten Realms campaign setting. The game adapts D&D 5e rules for real-time and turn-based gameplay, including classes, spells, ability checks, and the iconic d20 dice rolls.
