You'll explore the origins of Counter-Strike as a Half-Life mod, iconic maps like Dust II and Inferno, the weapon skin economy, legendary pro players and teams, Major championship history, and the transition from CS:GO to CS2 on the Source 2 engine.
Counter-Strike began as a mod for Half-Life, created by Minh 'Gooseman' Le and Jess Cliffe. The first beta was released on June 19, 1999. Valve recognized its potential, acquired the rights, and released Counter-Strike 1.0 on November 9, 2000.
The most expensive CS:GO skin transactions have involved rare AWP Dragon Lore skins with desirable patterns, with some reportedly selling for over $780,000. The skin economy was introduced with the Arms Deal update in August 2013.
CS2 launched on September 27, 2023, replacing CS:GO entirely. It runs on the Source 2 engine and introduced volumetric smoke grenades, a sub-tick rate system for more responsive gameplay, and visual overhauls to classic maps.
