Dante, Vergil, and stylish demon-slaying — 20+ years of the Sons of Sparda
Devil May Cry started as a Resident Evil 4 prototype — Capcom spun it off when the tone clashed too much with RE. The 2001 original launched a stylish action genre and a franchise that has sold more than 30 million copies. From Dante's Rebellion sword to Vergil's Yamato katana, this quiz covers the games, characters, weapons, and combat mechanics that have defined more than two decades of demon-slaying.
Each round presents 10 randomized questions from a pool of 50, with four multiple-choice options and instant feedback after every answer. Your final score comes with a performance tier and shareable results.
You'll explore Dante and Vergil's lineage as the Sons of Sparda, the Stylish Rank system from Dull to Smokin' Sick Style, every mainline DMC entry from 2001 to DMC5, the Ninja Theory reboot, the 2025 Netflix series, and the iconic weapons, bosses, and styles that define the series.
Dante is the half-demon protagonist of the Devil May Cry series, son of the demon knight Sparda and the human Eva, twin brother of Vergil, and a wisecracking demon hunter known for his Rebellion sword and Ebony & Ivory pistols.
Devil May Cry rewards players for varied, flashy combat. The Stylish Rank meter climbs through tiers — Dull, Cool, Bravo, Alright, Sweet, Smokin', Smokin' Sexy Style, and Smokin' Sick Style — based on how creatively and uninterruptedly you fight.
Director Hideki Kamiya was originally developing what became DMC as Resident Evil 4. As the tone grew increasingly stylish and combat-focused, Capcom decided the project no longer fit RE's survival horror identity and spun it off into Devil May Cry, released in 2001.
