You'll explore the origins of Master Chief and the SPARTAN program, the Covenant's alien species and hierarchy, the ancient Forerunner civilization, the terrifying Flood parasite, iconic multiplayer maps and moments, the transition from Bungie to 343 Industries (now Halo Studios), and the franchise's impact on gaming culture.
Master Chief Petty Officer John-117 is the protagonist of the Halo franchise, a supersoldier known as a SPARTAN-II. Abducted as a child and biologically augmented, he became humanity's greatest warrior against the alien Covenant. He is voiced by Steve Downes and is rarely seen without his iconic green Mjolnir armor.
Halo rings (officially called Halo Array installations) are massive ring-shaped superweapons built by the ancient Forerunner civilization. Each ring is approximately 10,000 kilometers in diameter and was designed to destroy all sentient life in the galaxy as a last resort to starve the parasitic Flood of hosts. There are seven rings in the final array.
The Covenant is a theocratic alliance of alien species that serves as the primary antagonist in the original Halo trilogy. Led by the Prophets (San'Shyuum), it includes Elites (Sangheili), Grunts (Unggoy), Jackals (Kig-Yar), Hunters (Mgalekgolo), Brutes (Jiralhanae), Drones (Yanme'e), and Engineers (Huragok). They worship the Forerunners and seek to activate the Halo rings, believing it will trigger a divine journey called the Great Journey.
